P-Ink Technology
Opalux Photonic Nanocomposites
for Displays
Opalux nanocomposites can be electrically tuned to any color in the visible, UV or IR spectrum in reflectance

The materials are based on highly reflective synthetic opal. Colors produced are brilliant and pure. Other features:
- Full color display from single material for low materials and production cost.
- Meet signage needs in size from shelf edge to highway billboards.
- High brightness, peak reflectivity up to 95%.
- Low power consumption.
- Low voltage and current during switching.
- Minimal power consumption when image is static.
- Sub-second switching speed.
- Heat management through controllable IR reflectivity.
- Applicable on rigid or flexible substrates.
- Lightweight, rugged, durable, and damage tolerant.
- Costs scales only linearly with size.
Opalux’s P-Ink technology with its cost advantage, low power consumption and high contrast in full sunlight is well suited for the digital billboard industry and can effectively compete with current LED arrays and liquid crystal displays. Opalux is actively developing the P-Ink materials and technology, and can currently produce prototype pixels and pixel arrays for demonstration and evaluation. Opalux is seeking commercial partners to help develop the P-Ink technology and facilitate its introduction into the digital signage market. The immediate need is in prototyping, scaling up and experience with controls for systems integration.
Opalux Inc. is dedicated to the development and commercialization of color-changing nano-structured materials.
